Manchester United have announced that Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, and Jonny Evans will part ways with the club at the conclusion of the current season.
The news of the experienced trio’s departures was revealed after United’s final match of the season on Sunday, where they secured a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes set up Eriksen to convert a penalty, netting United’s second goal just three minutes before the final whistle.
During his stint at Old Trafford, Eriksen established himself as a key player, earning a League Cup winner’s medal, although he was sidelined for the final due to injury. He also added an FA Cup to his accolades in the subsequent campaign.
The Danish midfielder made 107 appearances for the club over the past three seasons and injected a much-needed flair into United’s midfield, even as critics noted his struggle to keep pace with the demands of the English Premier League in his final year at the club.
Eriksen netted a total of eight goals, including two in the Europa League group stage matches against FC Twente and Fenerbahce.
All three players were given a heartfelt standing ovation from the fans in attendance on Sunday.
The 33-year-old Eriksen has stated that he does not intend to return to Denmark to play in the Danish Superliga and has been linked to several international clubs, including Ajax, where he began his career before moving to Tottenham in 2013.
