Manchester United has announced that Christian Eriksen, along with Victor Lindelöf and Jonny Evans, will be departing the club at the conclusion of the season.
The experienced trio’s exit was confirmed following United’s last match of the season on Sunday, where they secured a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes set up Eriksen to score United’s second goal from the penalty spot just three minutes before full-time.
Eriksen became a regular fixture in his first stint at Old Trafford, securing a League Cup winners’ medal despite missing the final due to injury. He also added an FA Cup to his achievements in the following season.
During his time at the club, Eriksen made 107 appearances, providing a much-needed touch of finesse to United’s midfield. However, he faced criticism for not quite matching the pace required for the English Premier League in his final season.
In total, he found the back of the net eight times, including two goals in the Europa League group stages against FC Twente and Fenerbahce.
On Sunday, all three players received a heartfelt standing ovation from the appreciative crowd.
At 33 years old, Eriksen has indicated that he will not be returning to Denmark to play in the Danish Superliga, and he has been linked with several clubs internationally, including Ajax, where he began his professional career before moving to Tottenham in 2013.
