Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, expressed his belief that brighter days lie ahead for the Red Devils, as he extended an apology to fans for what he described as a “disastrous” season over the weekend.
The club concluded the Premier League campaign in 15th place, marking their lowest finish since they were relegated back in 1974.
Following a defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final on Wednesday, United will be absent from European competition next season, a rare occurrence that has happened only twice in the last 35 years.
Amorim took the helm in November and, following a 2-0 victory against Aston Villa in their season finale, acknowledged his shortcomings in an address to supporters.
“I want to apologise for this season. I know you’re incredibly disappointed with me and with the team,” the Portuguese manager stated.
“However, we now face a decision. We can remain tied to the past because this season is behind us, it is done. Or we can unite and move forward.”
“Six months ago, after my first three matches in charge, which included two wins and a draw, I warned you ‘the storm is coming’.
“Now, after this disastrous season, I want to assure you that the good days are on the horizon.”
“If there’s any club in the world capable of rising above adversity and disaster, it’s our club, Manchester United.”
