Manchester United are poised to secure the signing of Brazilian international Matheus Cunha after activating the £62.5 million release clause in his Wolves contract, according to reports from British media on Wednesday.
The Red Devils have acted decisively to initiate a revamp of Ruben Amorim’s squad following what has been their worst season since their relegation 51 years ago.
United concluded the Premier League campaign in 15th position and were defeated by Tottenham in the Europa League final, ultimately missing out on European football for the upcoming season.
The BBC has revealed that United will settle the fee in three phases over the next two years, after Wolves declined a proposal to extend the payment over five years.
Cunha contributed 17 goals to help Wolves escape a relegation scrap, finishing one place behind United on goal difference in the Premier League table.
Nonetheless, the 26-year-old has been open about his intent to leave Molineux.
“I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step,” Cunha disclosed to the Guardian in March.
“I want to compete for titles and achieve big things. I believe I have the potential.”
Additionally, United are reportedly prepared to meet the £30 million release clause for Ipswich striker Liam Delap, as stated in an ESPN report.
The England Under-21 international netted 12 goals in the Premier League last season but is likely to be on the move after Ipswich’s relegation back to the Championship.
However, Delap is also drawing interest from Chelsea.
