Star midfielder Matt Rowell from the Gold Coast Suns has reportedly secured a two-year contract extension, opting to remain with the club despite significant interest from competing teams, including Collingwood.
Notably, the news emerged via The Age during the Suns’ narrow 16.10 (106) to 14.15 (99) defeat against GWS.
During the match, the Suns indicated that this was merely a report and they had no official comment to provide at that moment.

This two-year contract extension means Rowell will remain with the team through to free agency, placing him squarely in the running for any potential interest from the Tassie Devils.
Reports suggest this decision was made on Friday before the Suns’ trip to Sydney.
It represents a significant move for the club, especially considering Collingwood’s determined effort to entice him away.
Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bittersweet day for Gold Coast supporters, who saw their side lead for most of the match only to falter dramatically in the final quarter.
The Giants scored an impressive eight goals in the last term, overcoming the Suns’ 22-point advantage that had been established in the third quarter.
Tom Green was exceptional in the centre, achieving a career-best 16 clearances from 30 disposals, while Jake Stringer made an impact off the bench, netting two standout goals from the boundary in the final quarter.

Among the Suns’ notable performers, Noah Anderson shone with 42 disposals and two goals, while Touk Miller contributed 37 disposals and two goals of his own.
Rowell, the standout player of the match, tallied 34 disposals and registered 12 clearances.
The Giants did lose star player Lachie Whitfield to concussion early in the match following a collision with Suns forward Ben King.
This defeat is a tough one for Gold Coast, especially since they faced off against a rival team also vying for a position in the bottom half of the finals series. Such “eight-point” games can have crucial implications as the season progresses.
As it stands, the Suns may find themselves outside the finals positions going into the next round if the Western Bulldogs manage to triumph over Richmond.
Gold Coast is set to host Melbourne on Saturday afternoon in Round 16, while GWS will enjoy a bye week.
