The Macarthur Bulls have officially welcomed Swiss international Bruno Berner as their new assistant coach in preparation for the Isuzu UTE A-League 2025-26 season.
At 47 years old, Berner joins the Bulls after serving as head coach at Grasshopper Club Zurich in the Swiss Super League, where he notably worked with former Adelaide United player Nestory Irankunda, who was on loan from Bayern Munich, until his exit from the club in April this year.
During his playing career, Berner represented various clubs across Europe, including Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers in England, as well as Swiss teams FC Basel and Grasshoppers, while also making appearances for the Swiss national team at the senior level.

A holder of the UEFA Pro License, Berner has accumulated over a decade of experience in both assistant and head coaching roles in Switzerland, including a period leading the Swiss Under-20 national team.
In his inaugural season in Australia, Berner will collaborate with head coach Mile Sterjovski at Macarthur.
“It’s an exhilarating opportunity to join an A-League club that is both ambitious and striving for progress,” Berner expressed.
“I’ve heard so much about the fans, and I’m really looking forward to meeting them and experiencing the atmosphere on match days.”
“I’ve always sought out challenges. Our head coach Mile believed it was the perfect time to bring me to Sydney. With my curiosity, enthusiasm, and openness, it felt like the right choice.”
“Since embarking on my coaching journey in 2012, I’ve developed my skills as a head coach and have come to understand the pivotal role a good coach plays in nurturing young talent and guiding them to the professional level.”
