Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique acknowledged that his team will encounter a significant challenge against Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1 on Sunday, despite their recent impressive performances.
The leaders in Ligue 1 have been in fantastic form, including a remarkable 7-0 victory over Brest in the Champions League, yet Luis Enrique emphasised the necessity of staying sharp when facing Lyon, who appointed Paulo Fonseca as their new manager last month and currently sit sixth in the league with two consecutive wins, scoring a total of eight goals.
“It’s definitely going to be tough,” said the PSG coach on Saturday. “Lyon has just made a coaching change, so they are in the process of building their chemistry, but playing away is always a challenge; we are aware of the strengths of this team, which can adapt its style effectively.
“Lyon is one of the top teams in the league, as well as in Europe. We anticipate a challenging match. We must perform at an exceptionally high standard to secure a victory.”
Luis Enrique also addressed the progress of forward Bradley Barcola, who has netted 16 goals across all competitions this season at just 22 years of age.
“Bradley was instrumental for us during the latter half of last season and has a bright future ahead. However, we must remember that he’s still quite young. My aim is for him to keep developing, just as we expect from all the players in our squad.”
The PSG manager was also asked about the upcoming Champions League Round of 16 draw, where they will take on Liverpool, with the first leg scheduled at home on March 5.
“I believe we will be up against one of the finest Liverpool teams of recent years,” he remarked.
“This will be one of the standout encounters in the Round of 16 and promises to be fascinating. I’m thrilled because we are looking at two extremely high-calibre teams facing off. It’s sure to be an exhilarating match.”
