Sevens sensation Charlotte Caslick is set to make her eagerly awaited Wallaroos debut against Fiji in Suva this Saturday.
Caslick, regarded as one of the finest sevens players in history, has been included on Australia’s bench for the Test match as coach Jo Yapp evaluates her squad in the lead-up to this year’s Rugby World Cup in England.
While Caslick has been playing fullback for the Queensland Reds, Yapp has opted to retain teenage talent Caitlyn Halse in the starting lineup for now.
“It feels like ages since I was a rookie in the team. I’m really enjoying the experience and feel like I’m learning something new with each training session,” Caslick remarked.
“I take great pride in what I’ve achieved. At 30 years of age, stepping into a new environment and pushing myself out of my comfort zone is undoubtedly challenging. My journey has been somewhat different from that of the other sevens girls, and much of it has been on my own.”
“At times, it has been a bit intimidating, but I’ve been embraced by the groups I’ve joined, and I’ve honestly never felt out of place, which is a testament to both programs so far.”
Caslick is among six potential debutants for the match.
NSW Waratahs prop Faliki Pohiva and ACT Brumbies hooker Katalina Amosa will feature in a revamped forward pack.
Notably, Amosa is the sister of Wallabies hooker Brandon Paenga-Amosa.

Another sevens convert, Tia Hinds, joins Caslick, Ashley Fernandez, and Martha Fua as uncapped players on the bench.
Siokapesi Palu will take on the captaincy for the Wallaroos.
“Every player eligible for a debut has earned their chance, and this Test match will provide an opportunity to explore new combinations,” Yapp stated.
“There are many inspiring stories among the new players, as well as those returning from long-term injuries. Siokapesi Palu will lead us in this match and throughout the Pacific Four series, with the leadership group and players standing firmly behind her.
“Fijiana will present a significant challenge in their home country. The support from their fans will be considerable, and we’re excited to face them here in Suva for the very first time.”
In another showcase, a crucial conversion from sevens star Sid Harvey after the final siren helped Australia clinch a dramatic 29-29 draw against New Zealand at the opening of the Rugby Championship under-20 event in South Africa.
