Liverpool Women have announced the departure of manager Matt Beard, the Women’s Super League club revealed on Thursday. The team currently sits seventh in the league standings, having suffered seven defeats in their 14 matches.
Beard, aged 47, returned to Liverpool in 2021 after previously securing back-to-back league titles during his first stint. He successfully led the team back to the WSL in his first season upon his return. However, this season has seen his side win only four league matches.
“We have enjoyed some incredible moments with Matt at the helm of LFC Women, and we would like to express our appreciation for his considerable contributions,” read a statement from the club.
“Our main aim was to return this team to its rightful place, which we achieved together in 2022 by gaining promotion to the WSL.”
Amber White has been appointed as the interim manager while the club looks for a permanent successor.
Liverpool’s last match under Beard ended in a heavy 4-0 defeat away to Manchester City, and the team is set to face bottom-placed Crystal Palace on Sunday.
