Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe was absent from Saturday’s team training session and is likely to miss the 15-time European champions’ Group H clash against Pachuca at the Club World Cup as he continues his recovery from an illness, according to the club.
The French forward was admitted to a hospital in the Miami area earlier this week due to acute gastroenteritis. He remained at the team hotel and will not travel to Charlotte, North Carolina, for Sunday’s match, as confirmed by a Real Madrid spokesperson.
Mbappe was already sidelined for Real’s opening fixture against Al-Hilal, which ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving RB Salzburg at the top of the group standings with three points following their 2-1 victory against the Mexican side, Pachuca.
Since being taken to hospital on Wednesday, Mbappe has been kept away from his teammates, having been isolated from them since Tuesday. He was released from the hospital on Thursday.
A source from the club indicated earlier this week that Mbappe is not anticipated to participate in any group matches during the Club World Cup.
