Newcastle coach Adam O’Brien was curt in his refusal to comment on Dylan Brown’s upcoming signing, despite the player himself confirming the move.
On Monday evening, Brown took to Instagram to announce his departure from the Eels to join the Knights on a long-term deal said to be worth as much as $14 million over ten years.
The Eels have also acknowledged Brown’s exit at the conclusion of the current season, although the Knights have yet to officially reveal the news.

The deal awaits approval from the NRL.
O’Brien addressed the media prior to their round two matchup against the Dolphins at Hunter Stadium and was queried about the club’s record-breaking signing.

“I won’t be discussing Dylan Brown,” the coach stated firmly.
“I’m happy to talk about the Dolphins and our first game here in Newcastle.”
“The Dylan Brown scenario has a protocol that needs to be followed, and I intend to honour that.”
When a journalist pressed O’Brien for his overall opinion on Brown as a player, the coach remained tight-lipped.
“I can provide you the same response in a different way,” he replied.
“I understand your query, but the club will announce a suitable time for discussion about Dylan. Right now, my focus is on tomorrow night and the playmakers we have.”
Newcastle has faced criticism following the news about Brown, with analysts such as Matty Johns highlighting the team’s need for a genuine halfback, while Brown is considered primarily a five-eighth.
Star fullback Kalyn Ponga is already earning $1.4 million per season.
The Knights narrowly defeated the Tigers in their opening round, with Fletcher Sharpe stepping into the No.6 jersey and Jack Cogger assuming the halfback role.
They are expected to line up the same way for Thursday’s fixture against the Dolphins.
