Perth Glory vs Sydney FC – Match Recap | Isuzu UTE A-League 2024-25 | Round 20
Oli Sail, the goalkeeper for Perth Glory, executed a series of crucial late saves, ensuring his team managed to secure a hard-fought 0-0 stalemate against a tenacious Sydney FC at HBF Park on Saturday evening in the Isuzu UTE A-League.
Despite significant opportunities from Joe Lolley, Douglas Costa, Anas Ouahim, and Patryk Klimala in the second half, the Sky Blues were unable to find the net, as Glory stood resolute. This marked Perth’s first home draw of the season following a record of one victory and eight losses at HBF Park.
Perth captain Adam Taggart had the team’s most promising chance but failed to connect with his first-half volley, which soared over the target; the hosts looked the stronger side initially, yet Sydney FC found their rhythm post-interval, pressing hard for a winner that ultimately eluded both sides, resulting in a scoreless draw.

Before half-time, opportunities were limited, yet Glory intensified their attack after the half-hour mark.
Harrison Devenish-Meares prevented a strong header from Taggart from finding the back of the net, and fortunately for Sydney, the keeper held onto the ball as Nicholas Pennington closed in, averting a simple tap-in.

Taggart nearly added a spectacular goal to his credentials, skillfully controlling a lofted pass from Tomislav Mrcela with the outside of his right foot before attempting a volley that curiously arched too high, hitting the roof of the net after sailing over Devenish-Meares.
Glory maintained their advantage in chances early in the second half, and an attempted flicked header from Mrcela towards the six-yard box nearly saw Sydney defender Jordan Courtney-Perkins inadvertently score an own goal, but he managed to concede just a corner instead.
Simultaneously, Sydney’s Klimala, who had been subbed in at half-time, created a fantastic opportunity after slicing past Takuya Okamoto to find room for a shot within the area. However, Okamoto showcased his defensive determination, recovering in time to execute a pivotal block.
Klimala continued to pose a threat just before the 70-minute mark, combining effectively with substitute Anas Ouahim down the left. His attempts to score resulted in two shots from an acute angle, both kept at bay by Glory’s Oli Sail.

As the second half progressed, Sydney’s array of stars continued to shine as Ufuk Talay’s squad sought to snatch a late victory.
Lolley, who has scored more goals against Perth Glory than any other team in the Isuzu UTE A-League, sought to add to his tally with a low shot from range, brilliantly tipped around the post by Sail.
Next to threaten Glory’s clean sheet was Ouahim, who was set up by Lolley, but before he could strike, Mrcela intervened effectively to prevent any shot on goal.
Douglas Costa also came off the bench in a bid to tip the scales in Sydney’s favour. In the 84th minute, his ferocious, swerving strike forced Sail into action for the first of two rapid-fire saves, subsequently denying Ouahim’s follow-up effort, highlighting the brilliance of the New Zealand international.
