Braydon Trindall has emerged as an unexpected contender for Queensland in this year’s State of Origin series, showcasing his exceptional form as a star for the Sharks.
Coming off a career-best season, the playmaker has made a strong start in 2025, standing out as one of the top performers on the field during Cronulla’s victory over South Sydney.
Trindall’s adept kicking and game management created significant challenges for the Rabbitohs, playing a key role in the team’s 27-12 triumph on their home turf.

During an appearance on Nine’s Sunday Footy Show, rugby league legend and Maroons coach Billy Slater expressed high regard for the 25-year-old following his notable performance.
“I want to acknowledge Braydon Trindall for executing two 40/20s in last night’s match,” he remarked.
“You’re clearly performing at the top of your game when you’re able to do this, and it was executed on both sides of the field. Confidence allows you to seize these opportunities.”
“Braydon Trindall is currently responsible for most of the kicking at the Sharks, and he’s having an outstanding season.”

Slater’s praise prompted an impromptu remark from co-host Andrew Johns, who suggested Trindall could be a viable option for Queensland this year, should seasoned halfback Daly Cherry-Evans decide to step back from representative football as he approaches the latter stages of his career.
Such a response from the coach is likely to boost Trindall’s confidence greatly.

“I am certainly aware that he hails from Queensland,” Slater noted.
“Given his performances, not just this year but last year as well, he is undoubtedly someone to watch closely. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of him making a run for it.”
Trindall’s synergy with Nicho Hynes is developing well for the Sharks, enabling the former Dally M Medal winner to concentrate more on his athletic gameplay.
Cronulla is scheduled to face the Bulldogs in round four.
