Bayern Munich has secured their spot in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) Quarter-Finals for the remarkable 35th time, following a 2-0 triumph over German rivals Bayer Leverkusen, resulting in a comprehensive 5-0 aggregate victory for the Bundesliga frontrunners.
Heading into the final head-to-head clash of the season, Leverkusen faced an uphill battle, needing to become just the fifth team in UCL history to recover after losing the first leg of a knockout tie by three or more goals.
However, it was Bayern who displayed their attacking threat early, with Harry Kane coming close to scoring within the opening five minutes.
Jamal Musiala showcased his agility on the right wing before presenting the ball to Kane, who, unfortunately, was impeded by Jonathan Tah, preventing him from scoring as Lukas Hradecky managed to palm the ball away from the goal line.
Struggling to assert their presence, Leverkusen saw two close efforts from Vincent Kompany’s side shortly after the quarter-hour mark.
Kane unleashed a shot from outside the box that was saved, and Michael Olise nearly found the net, firing just wide from another long-range attempt. It wasn’t until the 37th minute that the hosts came close, with Patrik Schick just missing with a header from Granit Xhaka’s cross.
Schick continued to push for a goal as half-time approached, narrowly heading into the side netting, but Bayern’s commanding aggregate lead remained unchallenged.

As the second half commenced, the atmosphere in the BayArena turned tense, with Xabi Alonso receiving a yellow card just two minutes in.
The mood shifted dramatically in the 52nd minute when Schick misplayed a clearance from Joshua Kimmich’s cross, allowing Harry Kane to pounce.

The English striker made no error in slotting home, marking his 10th UCL goal this season, and becoming the first English player ever to reach double figures in a single European Cup/UCL campaign.
Coman nearly added another for Bayern shortly after, but his strike was parried away at the near post by Hradecky.
With the tie effectively decided, Die Werkself were left playing for pride. Both Jeremie Frimpong and Schick had chances to score, but their attempts were thwarted by UCL debutant Jonas Urbig.
The contest effectively concluded when a quick counter-attack saw Kane provide an assist for Alphonso Davies, who slotted the ball in.

Bayern ultimately sailed through both legs with ease, handing Leverkusen their third consecutive defeat, a first since August 2022, marking the first instance of a ‘threepeat’ for Alonso as Leverkusen’s manager. Kompany’s squad will now face Simone Inzaghi’s Inter in the quarter-finals next month.
Leverkusen’s best chance at silverware now lies in the DFB-Pokal, as Alonso’s team trails the league leaders Bayern by eight points.
