On Friday, Juventus announced the acquisition of Canadian forward Jonathan David from the French club Lille.
“Jonathan David is now officially a player for Juventus. The Canadian striker has penned a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2030,” stated the Serie A outfit.
During his five-year tenure with Lille, David netted 109 goals across 232 appearances.
He made a significant impact on the European stage last season, scoring the decisive goal in Lille’s 1-0 victory against Real Madrid, as well as netting twice in a 3-1 triumph over their city rivals Atletico.
Recognised as a reliable forward, he finished fourth in the Ligue 1 scoring charts last season, second the year before, and third during the 2022/23 campaign.
David marks the first signing since Frenchman Damien Comolli took the reins as Juventus’ general manager last month.
Having played a key role in Lille’s triumph as French champions in 2021, David joins a Juventus side that has claimed only one trophy, the Italian Cup last year, since 2021, and ended on a disappointing fourth place in Serie A last season.
Coach Thiago Motta was relieved of his duties in March after just eight months in charge.
Currently led by Igor Tudor, Juventus are reportedly eyeing a move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who took David’s place at Lille.
Osimhen was loaned by Italian champions Napoli to Turkish club Galatasaray last season, with a price tag of 70 million euros (£60.41 million) attached to him.
Local reports also indicate that Juventus are considering a move for Manchester United’s England international Jadon Sancho.
