Juventus defender Nicolo Savona will miss the remainder of the Club World Cup following an ankle injury sustained in his team’s 5-2 defeat to Manchester City, the Italian club confirmed on Friday. He is expected to be out for more than a month.
The 22-year-old Italian had played in all three of Juventus’ group stage matches but was forced to leave the pitch during the second half after twisting his ankle during Thursday’s heavy loss, with Federico Gatti coming on as his replacement.

Following diagnostic tests on his left ankle, Juventus announced that Savona has suffered a high-grade capsular ligament injury. He has commenced his rehabilitation and will be reassessed in a month’s time.
The defeat to Manchester City saw Juventus finish second in Group G, setting them up for a last-16 clash against Real Madrid on Tuesday in Miami. Gatti, who stepped in for Savona during the opening win over Al Ain, is expected to take on a role in Igor Tudor’s back three.
