Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has expressed confidence that the entire club believes the Champions League holders are capable of achieving a remarkable turnaround against Arsenal on Wednesday.
The Gunners secured a dominant 3-0 victory in the first leg of the quarter-finals in London last week, leaving Real Madrid with a challenging task ahead at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Despite having never reversed a first-leg deficit of this scale in the Champions League era, Bellingham is optimistic that the club’s belief, rich history, and sheer talent will help them progress to the semi-finals.
“It’s been quite an unusual atmosphere over the last few days. That first leg result was about as disappointing as it gets, yet somehow everyone seems to believe we can bounce back, which is a comforting thought,” the England international remarked during a press conference on Tuesday.
“This faith in our abilities signifies that we’re at a unique club, the best in the world, and that’s something I truly value.”
“With that comes a certain pressure; we are determined to fulfil the expectations that we can turn this around, and that’s clearly our objective.”
Bellingham noted that the term ‘remontada’—Spanish for comeback—has been frequently mentioned since Madrid’s defeat at the Emirates.
“I’ve heard ‘remontada’ so many times this week; I’ve seen countless videos online,” he continued.
“It’s incredibly motivating. This is a night made for Real Madrid, a type of occasion that resonates with the fans here, and I hope we can create another memorable chapter.”
