Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that he might consider a future in Scottish football, as he gears up to face Rangers in the Europa League tomorrow night.
During his recent press conference, Mourinho addressed various topics while preparing his team for the significant European encounter. He was also questioned about his managerial future, which he acknowledged is not his priority at this time.
“My future isn’t what matters right now; it’s Fenerbahce’s future. I have another season on my contract after this one, and at this moment, my focus is solely on fulfilling my responsibilities and remaining loyal to the club.”
When asked if Rangers fans still show their appreciation for his triumph over Celtic in the 2003 UEFA Cup final with Porto, Mourinho took a moment to commend Scotland for its rich football heritage and the fervent support of its fans.
“Not in Turkey, as I haven’t encountered any Scottish fans here. Perhaps tonight or tomorrow. However, I’ve certainly met Rangers supporters in London and southern Portugal who express their gratitude. That final was my first major European achievement, and I hold both clubs in high regard.”
“Both have remarkable histories. I have friends within both clubs—the green and the blue. I know this will be a tough match, but I’m delighted to be competing against a Scottish team. I’m looking forward to going to Scotland next week.”
His remarks prompted further interest, leading to inquiries about the possibility of managing a prestigious club like Rangers or Celtic in the future. Mourinho did not dismiss the idea, stating that a genuine passion is what inspires him to embark on new management opportunities.
“At the moment, that’s not my aim. I’m fully dedicated to a job that excites me and requires my loyalty. But who knows what the future holds?”
“Some may argue that Scottish football revolves around just two teams, but it’s a league driven by passion. To me, passion is everything.
“Celtic and Rangers are massive clubs with impressive fan bases.”
