Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has secured a new long-term contract that will keep him at Merseyside until 2030, the club announced on Wednesday, amidst media speculation that the Englishman had attracted interest from several prominent Premier League clubs.
Since joining from Carlisle United, a fifth-tier English side, in 2020, Branthwaite has developed a formidable partnership with James Tarkowski at the centre of the Toffees’ defence, making a total of 86 appearances across all competitions.
The 23-year-old England international, who has one cap to his name, had been the subject of interest from top clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur. His previous contract was set to last until 2027.
“I’m absolutely thrilled. This has been something we’ve been discussing since the end of the season, and it’s fantastic to have it finalised now,” Branthwaite shared with EvertonTV.
“The faith the club has shown in me, along with the number of matches I’ve played over the last two seasons, made it a straightforward choice for me to stay and continue developing as a player.
“I know the club well. I feel valued by the teammates – we have a tight-knit group here – and the supporters. Over the past years, I’ve witnessed the significant influence the fans have on our team and how much it means to them.”
As Everton prepares to embark on a new chapter, the men’s team will transition from Goodison Park, their home since 1892, to a new stadium boasting a 52,888 capacity at Bramley-Moore Dock.
Branthwaite expressed enthusiasm for this exciting project and his eagerness to be part of it.
“Making the move to the new stadium and experiencing that first home game together is something we’re all eagerly anticipating. We aim to push hard for a successful season,” commented Branthwaite, who was awarded the Club’s Players’ Player of the Season for 2023/24.
Everton, who finished 13th in the Premier League last season, will kick off their new campaign with an away match against promoted Leeds United on August 18.
