In the wake of Queensland’s defeat in game two of the Women’s State of Origin series against NSW, Ali Brigginshaw’s wife has made a heartfelt plea for the torrent of negativity aimed at her family on social media to cease.
The Blues are set on achieving a clean sweep next Thursday at McDonald Jones Stadium, having claimed victory in the first two matches with scores of 22-12 and 26-6.
These outcomes have ignited a wave of criticism online, with Kate Brigginshaw, married to Ali since 2021, highlighting that the Queensland captain has faced appalling abuse via social media.
In an Instagram post, Kate disclosed that their family has received messages urging them to “kill themselves,” along with numerous other offensive remarks.
“Mental health is an issue that impacts everyone, especially athletes,” she expressed.

“Those in the public eye understand that they expose themselves to opinions and scrutiny, yet there is a distinct difference between a rational comment or message and the unacceptable extremes that Ali and our family have been faced with over the past month.”
Although there were concerns that Brigginshaw might have played her final game for the Maroons following the loss, she has been selected to play lock in the decisive game of the series.
Lauren Brown will partner with Tarryn Aiken in the halves, with Keilee Joseph being the player omitted from the 17 for Queensland.

“Harassing individuals on social media is simply not acceptable,” the post continued.
“You may think you’re expressing something about someone else, when in reality, you’re merely highlighting your own issues.
“Ordinary people do not hurl hate at those they know nothing about or send offensive, sexist, or cruel messages suggesting someone end their life.
“Interestingly, those who advocate for mental health awareness, saying ‘it’s not weak to speak’, are often the same people who post hurtful comments and dispatch those vile messages.
“This behaviour is incredibly harmful and dangerous, and I strongly encourage anyone who participates in it to reflect on whether they would express such sentiments to someone they care about.”
Amid speculation that Brigginshaw might not earn selection for game three, selectors are giving the veteran star an opportunity for a fitting Origin farewell.
Since her debut in 2018, Brigginshaw has been a pivotal figure in the Queensland squad, shifting between halfback and lock throughout her Origin journey.
