Siua Wong, the back-rower for the Roosters, endured what appeared to be a serious knee injury during a harrowing incident on Sunday, prompting rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns to express his anger and call for changes in the sport.
The Roosters player left the field at Allianz Stadium in visible pain after injuring his left knee during a three-man tackle against the Cowboys in the first half.
Karl Lawton, coming in as the third man, connected with Wong’s legs, forcing his knee into a concerning position.
While the North Queensland hooker aimed to bring Wong down and slow the ruck, his actions may have unintentionally led to a critical situation for the Tongan Test forward.
“I absolutely detest that third man in,” Johns stated during the Nine broadcast as a replay of the incident was shown. “In my opinion, if there are already two players involved in a tackle and the momentum is virtually halted, that third player shouldn’t be permitted to enter like that.”
