AFL legend Brendan Fevola has delivered an emotional tribute to his dear friend Troy Selwood, who tragically passed away on Tuesday at the age of 40.
Fevola concluded his football career with a stint at the Brisbane Lions in 2010, where he had the privilege of playing alongside Selwood.
The former Brisbane player’s body was discovered at a residence in Geelong on Tuesday morning, leading to an outpouring of sorrow throughout the football community.
During his Fifi, Fev & Nick radio show on Wednesday, Fevola found it challenging to maintain his composure and struggled to hold back tears while reminiscing about his friend.
“Yesterday was a really tough day for me, and I apologise for being a bit off this morning,” Fevola said.

“I’ve not been myself lately, as I lost a really close friend yesterday.
“I shared a home with him while in Brisbane, and of course, it’s in the news now – his name was Troy Selwood. Troy was an absolute gem.
“I was having a tough time during my time in Brisbane, and he was the one who stood by me, which I’m incredibly grateful for.
“This is such a shock. In the football world, we often put on a brave face, acting like we can handle it all.
“But we’re only human, and it’s not something we often talk about. It’s a broader issue for men as well.
“He was evidently going through a tough phase, and it tragically culminated yesterday. He leaves behind two young children… it’s just devastating, heartbreaking.
“You reflect on what you could have done, but in truth, there’s nothing you can do. It’s all too difficult.
“You will hear countless stories about him, and no one will have a bad word to say. He was truly one of the best among us.
“It’s just so sad.”
Selwood was the twin brother of former West Coast player Adam and the elder brother of Joel and Scott.
The AFL community was further rocked by the unexpected passing of Eagles premiership player Adam Hunter on Wednesday.
