Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has paid his respects to fellow international teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically lost his life in a car accident on Thursday. Ronaldo expressed, “We will all miss you.”
The Liverpool and Portugal forward, aged 28, died alongside his younger brother Andre when their car departed from a motorway and ignited shortly after midnight in the municipality of Cernadilla, situated in Spain’s Zamora province.
“It’s incomprehensible. We were just together with the national team (having won the Nations League title last month), and you had recently tied the knot,” he shared on X.
“To your family, your wife, and your children, I extend my deepest condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. Rest in peace, Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you.”
This heartbreaking news comes only a month after Jota and Ronaldo were rejoicing on the field following Portugal’s victory over Spain in the Nations League final, decided by penalties.
