Simone Inzaghi has downplayed speculation regarding his exit from Inter Milan following the Champions League final, amidst mounting rumours of a lucrative offer from Al-Hilal.
Reports regarding Al-Hilal’s interest in Inzaghi surfaced just as Inter prepared to clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday, marking their second appearance in the final of Europe’s premier competition within three seasons.
However, Inzaghi expressed that discussing his future ahead of the final was ‘mad’, emphasising his contentment at Inter, despite suggestions of a two-year contract with Al-Hilal worth €50 million (£42 million).
“Every year brings the same chatter. Whether it was during my time at Lazio or since joining Inter, there are always inquiries from both Italy and abroad, but I think it would be crazy to focus on that now.”
“We’ll sit down and discuss things as we always have after the match, with the only aim being what’s best for Inter.”
“If we align all our resources effectively, we’ll progress together.”
Inzaghi confessed that he might struggle to sleep in the lead-up to the Munich final, given that Inter could end the season without silverware after being in contention for the Serie A title, Champions League, and Coppa Italia.
The defending champions, Inter, pushed Napoli to the final day of the season but ultimately finished second in the league. Their rivals AC Milan halted their run in the domestic cup at the semi-final stage, leaving the Champions League as Inzaghi’s last shot at a trophy this season.
“Friday night will certainly be a special occasion… the Champions League is a match every coach dreams of, yet it’s not something that comes around for everyone,” stated Inzaghi.
“I never had the chance to play in it, but thanks to my team, we have reached this point twice in three seasons.”
Inzaghi confirmed that Lautaro Martinez would be ready for the final, while Benjamin Pavard and Piotr Zielinski remain uncertain due to injuries.
