Simone Inzaghi upheld his impressive unbeaten record against Cagliari (W13, D3) as Inter Milan secured a convincing 3-1 victory at home against the relegation-threatened side, increasing their advantage at the summit of the Serie A table to six points.
Inzaghi made several changes to the team after their midweek triumph of 2-1 against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, refreshing his squad for the challenge.
Marko Arnautovic, one of the players drafted into the lineup, wasted no time in making an impact—finding the net within 15 minutes. He seized on the ball after Carlos Augusto brought it down and fired a powerful shot into the roof of the net, marking his fourth goal in the last five league matches.
Motivated by his opener, Arnautovic then turned provider, setting up partner Lautaro Martinez for Inter’s second goal shortly after Yann Sommer pulled off a superb save to deny Cagliari’s Roberto Piccoli. Martínez accelerated onto the Austrian’s perfectly-weighted pass and displayed great calm by delicately chipping the ball over Elia Caprile, bringing his tally to 20 competitive goals this season.

Leading comfortably at the break, Inter displayed signs of complacency at the start of the second half, allowing Cagliari’s Piccoli the opportunity to nod home a header from Tommaso Augello’s perfectly delivered cross just three minutes after the restart.
Nevertheless, Inter quickly demonstrated their title credentials, restoring their two-goal lead through Yann Bisseck, who soared in the box to powerfully head in from Federico Dimarco’s corner.
Cagliari fought hard to respond, with Piccoli forcing Stefan de Vrij into a goal-line clearance during the final quarter of the match.
Unfortunately for the visitors, they couldn’t find their way back into the game as the Nerazzurri expertly managed the final minutes to secure their seventh victory in eight encounters against Cagliari in Serie A.
As Inter extend their grip on the top position, Davide Nicola’s side remains six points clear of relegation after suffering their fourth defeat in six matches on the road.
