Chelsea’s winger Cole Palmer has reflected on his side’s recent victory over Liverpool and addressed his own form, which has seen a decline over the last few months.
The Blues edged closer to securing a Champions League spot with their triumph against the reigning champions, who appeared to still be affected by their celebrations from the previous Sunday.
Palmer managed to convert a penalty—his first goal in 19 matches—helping to ease any tension on the pitch. He spoke to the club’s official website about regaining his confidence after finally finding the back of the net.
“I anticipated that encountering challenges would be part of the journey; it was bound to happen.
“It hasn’t really bothered me—it’s just one of those things in life. The key is to work hard every day and push through it.
“Perhaps it weighed on my mind at first, but over time, I’ve come to understand that it’s simply life. I can’t be on a high for 18 months without facing some lows.
“I’m only young and just starting out in my career. I was aware this might occur, and it’s all about putting in the effort to move past it.
“I will continue to give my all and support the team as much as I can.”
The Blues now hold a three-point advantage over Nottingham Forest, who have a match in hand and are set to take on Newcastle United, who shared the points with Brighton in a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
Nonetheless, Palmer remains focused on the here and now, expressing his satisfaction with the vital three points gained in their pursuit of a Champions League place.
“It felt like a significant victory. It was a great match, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The manager had devised an excellent game plan, and I believe we executed it effectively.
“We recognise that they are an outstanding team, so claiming this win feels fantastic. We needed it to bolster our Champions League ambitions, and they are a tough opponent, so this victory is rewarding.
“I felt good throughout the match. I thought I was playing freely, performing well even before scoring. I was full of confidence and focused on doing my best to find the net. Honestly, I believe we would have won anyway, but sealing the deal felt great.”
