Juventus manager Igor Tudor is optimistic that his side will clinch a place in the Champions League as they gear up for a crucial Serie A clash against Lazio on Saturday amid an intensely competitive race for the top four.
The Bianconeri missed an opportunity to reinforce their hold on fourth place after settling for a 1-1 draw against Bologna last Sunday. They currently share 63 points with AS Roma, who are fifth, while Lazio trails them in sixth position, with just three matches left in the season.
When queried about Juventus’ chances of competing in Europe’s premier club tournament next season, the Croatian coach expressed his belief in a positive outcome.
“Absolutely, I have full confidence in that, and I believe everyone else does too,” Tudor stated during a press conference on Friday. “Every team feels strong, but ultimately it comes down to the pitch. Actions speak louder than words. We need to prepare thoroughly.”
After suffering their first league defeat at the end of January, Juventus have recorded three losses and two draws in their past eight matches.
“This week I noticed a sense of awareness and confidence along with a strong desire to succeed,” Tudor remarked. “We understand the significance of this match against Lazio, and we have prepared accordingly.”
The team is set to welcome back striker Dusan Vlahovic, their leading goal scorer this season with nine goals in the league, as he returned to training on Thursday following a thigh injury that sidelined him since late April.
“Dusan is in good spirits. He has trained with us all week,” Tudor confirmed. “Unfortunately, (Federico Gatti and Teun Koopmeiners) will not be available, although Gatti has trained a bit with us and might be on the bench.”
Having previously managed Lazio last year, where he left them in seventh after Maurizio Sarri’s departure, Tudor holds a positive outlook as he prepares to face his old team.
“We achieved a great deal last year and secured a place in the Europa League,” Tudor reflected. “I made a calm decision to depart, and I continue to cherish my time there. Tomorrow’s match will be different from Bologna, but Lazio possesses distinct qualities.
“They are an experienced side with strong players. We must remain vigilant… yet our focus needs to be on ourselves.”
