Juventus head coach Igor Tudor has dismissed any claims that his squad is exhibiting signs of end-of-season fatigue, asserting that his players are highly motivated and prepared for their upcoming clash with Moroccan outfit Wydad Casablanca in the Club World Cup this Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Italian giants commenced their tournament with an impressive 5-0 triumph over Al Ain from the UAE, and a victory against Wydad will secure their progress to the next round. Such an outcome would pave the way for a highly anticipated Group G encounter with Manchester City on Thursday, which will likely decide the top spot in the group.
In a press conference on Saturday, Tudor stated that he perceives no signs of fatigue among his team. “I don’t observe any signs of weariness within the squad; on the contrary, there is a lot of enthusiasm,” he remarked. “It’s wonderful to see them enjoying their time together on the pitch. They approached the last match as if it were a final. Their confidence has soared, and I can see they are relishing the project we are building together, which is fantastic.”
Since taking charge in March after the departure of Thiago Motta, Tudor has overseen an impressive turnaround at the club. When he took the helm, Juventus was struggling outside the top four in Serie A and had already exited all cup competitions. However, under his stewardship, the team has suffered only one more league loss, finishing fourth to secure a spot in the Champions League.
Reflecting on his time in charge, Tudor expressed pride in the professionalism and dedication of his players. “I am fortunate to work with great professionals who have been committed from day one,” he noted. “There has been considerable effort behind the scenes, and we’ve also built a better appreciation of the game and what I require from them as a coach.”
Despite their strong start in the Club World Cup, Tudor urged his team to remain focused. “Juventus should aim high, but we must also stay grounded and put in the hard work,” he stated. “I consistently encourage the players to concentrate on their training and approach each match one at a time. Perhaps I bore them with my insistence on this, but that’s the mindset we need to adopt.“
Juventus’ encounter with Wydad Casablanca will serve as a crucial test of their development under Tudor, as the Italian team seeks to keep their momentum going ahead of the tournament’s knockout stages.
