NSW second-rower Angus Crichton didn’t hesitate when quizzed on radio on Wednesday night about which of his teammates he believed was primed to “explode” in the upcoming State of Origin decider.
“I reckon it’ll be Marto,” Crichton chuckled, pointing to Panthers powerhouse Liam Martin, his fellow back-rower for the Blues.
Crichton was speaking on 2GB’s Wide World of Sports following a training session for NSW in the Blue Mountains.
“We’ve played in some big matches together, and honestly, I told him before the last game there’s no one I’d prefer to team up with in the back row,” Crichton said, referring to Martin.
“The intensity and attitude he brings to these crucial games uplift the team and certainly motivate me to give my best.”

Martin, known for his relentless work ethic as a back-rower for Penrith, NSW, and Australia, is widely recognised as one of the fiercest competitors in rugby league.
As the second game of the 2022 Origin series approached, The Courier Mail labeled him a “grub” and ran photos of him tussling with Queensland players during the series opener.

When asked about Queensland’s changes for the decider on Wednesday night, Crichton said he was unfazed.
“They can do whatever they feel they need to do,” he said with a laugh.
“What’s important is that we concentrate on ourselves, maintain our discipline, and get off to a strong start, and we’ll be good.”
