Melbourne City head coach Aurelio Vidmar has praised his new assistant, Scott Jamieson, as he backed the club legend for a prominent future in coaching.
Jamieson has stepped up to the role of assistant coach following the recent departure of Raffaele Napoli to Japan, where he has taken on the assistant position under Arthur Papas at J1 League side Cerezo Osaka.
Napoli’s departure in December paved the way for A-League stalwart Jamieson to advance in his career, having been part of City’s coaching team since hanging up his boots at the end of the 2022-23 season. He boasts one Championship and three Premierships, tallying up 322 league appearances — the eighth most in A-League history.
Vidmar was questioned about the former City captain and four-time Socceroos defender following Friday night’s 1-0 defeat to Adelaide United.

“Jamo is really developing in his role,” Vidmar shared with reporters.
“Since our assistant coach moved to Japan 4-5 weeks ago, Jamo has embraced a more senior assistant’s role and he’s doing an outstanding job. He genuinely loves it.”
“He has the advantage of having the analytics in front of him to monitor a lot of the tactical elements that can be hard to observe, and he is effectively relaying that knowledge to the players.
“He is excelling in his new role and truly enjoying the added responsibilities.”
“I firmly believe that in the long run, he will become a very, very good coach.”
