SC Heerenveen have expressed their disappointment following the departure of manager Robin van Persie (41), who has returned to Feyenoord earlier this weekend.
On Sunday morning, Feyenoord officially announced the signing of the Dutch all-time leading goalscorer. Van Persie, at 41, is set to sign a contract that will keep him at the club until June 2027, where he previously enjoyed two separate spells, making 122 appearances and securing two trophies.
Van Persie joined Heerenveen in the summer of 2024 after a successful four-year stint at Feyenoord, where he held various roles. His time at Heerenveen began with a three-year contract, but now the club finds itself searching for a manager in the midst of the season.
“Robin (van Persie) has informed us that he couldn’t pass up this exceptional chance at Feyenoord,” stated Heerenveen director Ferry de Haan on the club’s website. “While we appreciate his ambition, the timing of his departure in the middle of the season is rather inconvenient for us. We embarked on this journey together and would have preferred to see out the current season.”
In addition to Van Persie, Heerenveen has also lost assistant manager Brian Pinas and video analyst Yori Bosschaart to Feyenoord. Goalkeeper coach Frans Hoek, who was brought to Heerenveen by Van Persie in January, has also exited the club immediately but will not be joining him at Feyenoord.
“Despite the brevity of his time with us, we wish Robin all the best in Rotterdam. SC Heerenveen will swiftly commence the search for new appointments in our technical staff.”
During this transitional period, assistant manager Henk Brugge will step in as caretaker manager while the club seeks a permanent replacement.
