The Selwood family endured unimaginable sorrow in 2025, with the tragic loss of twins Troy and Adam occurring just a few months apart.
Scott Selwood, their brother and assistant coach for Collingwood, is on the verge of a full-time return to the club. Amidst this heartache, a touching act of kindness has come to light, shared by Nine’s chief AFL reporter Tom Morris.
Although Scott took some time off from the club, head coach Craig McRae indicated earlier this month that they are hopeful for his imminent return.

“We have a great deal of love and support for Scott, and our thoughts are with him during this difficult time,” McRae commented to the media. “His resilience has been nothing short of inspiring.”
The assistant coach is not yet back on full-time hours, but the team is eager to welcome him back as soon as possible.
Morris detailed that Scott was at the club when he received the news of Adam’s passing and immediately travelled to Perth.

As a result, Scott’s vehicle remained parked at Collingwood, unused for several weeks.
In a generous gesture, assistant coach Hayden Skipworth took it upon himself to clean and refuel Scott’s car, ensuring it would be ready for his return to the club.
“On the day that Adam tragically passed, Scott was at the club. They had a game at the MCG that day, which is why he left his car there,” Morris shared on Nine’s Footy Furnace. “Hayden Skipworth, an assistant coach at Collingwood, made sure to clean and fuel Scott’s car so it would be ready when he came back.”

“That kind of thoughtfulness is a beautiful thing to do for someone experiencing such profound grief,” he commented.
Former Essendon coach James Hird expressed that he wasn’t at all surprised by the lovely gesture. “Hayden is one of the finest people in football, and having worked alongside him for many years, I can vouch for his character,” Hird remarked.
