The 20-year-old centre-back Abdoulaye Faye from Hacken is set to leave the Swedish club, having signed with German heavyweights Bayer Leverkusen, who have accepted a €3 million offer from the Svenska Cupen champions.
Faye is among six fresh signings confirmed for Leverkusen as they gear up for the 2025/26 season, ushering in a new chapter under Erik ten Hag following Xabi Alonso’s move to Real Madrid.
Since joining Hacken from Diambars FC in Senegal in 2023, Faye spent some time on loan at Orgryte in 2024 before making his debut for Hacken in the Svenska Cupen last February.
He marked his debut with a goal against Oster and followed it up with another against Mjallby in March. Faye made six appearances in the Allsvenskan before suffering an injury in April that has kept him out of action since. This unfortunate setback meant he missed the cup final victory over Malmo in May.
Despite only making 11 appearances overall, Faye’s performances have caught the attention of Bayer’s management. Although they’ll miss him for the upcoming UEFA Europa League qualification campaign next month, the Wasps are delighted that one of their talents has attracted interest from such a prestigious club.
“Selling one of our players to a top-tier club in Europe marks a significant achievement for us and is a testament to the strength of our operations,” commented Martin Ericsson, Hacken’s football manager.
Faye expressed his gratitude towards the Swedish club for their role in his development, stating, ”I’ve gained tremendous knowledge both on the pitch and in life since moving here from Senegal. The support I’ve received has been invaluable. The atmosphere is welcoming, and I truly feel at home in BK Hacken.”
Hacken will resume their Allsvenskan campaign on Sunday against GAIS after the midsummer break.
