Palmeiras veteran Gustavo Gomez is eager for the Club World Cup to feel like a celebration, as he looks forward to his squad’s performance during the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Paraguayan defender has been a familiar face for supporters of Palmeiras since joining the Brazilian club in 2018. Now, as he heads to the USA, he’s excited for his team to deliver an entertaining spectacle that’s been long anticipated.
The 32-year-old expressed: “I believe this is something we’ve been eagerly awaiting for quite some time. This is the inaugural format of the new World Cup, featuring all the key and diverse teams.”
“This occasion is particularly significant for us. It’s about bringing cultures together. That’s what football represents: uniting, enjoying, and creating a festive atmosphere as it should be.”

Palmeiras will compete against FC Porto, Al Ahly, and ultimately Inter Miami in Group A, with the highlight being their final match of the first round, where they will go head-to-head with arguably the greatest football player of all time—a matchup that Gomez can’t wait to experience.
He noted: “As I mentioned, I think the fans will relish it because we know that at Inter Miami, he (Lionel Messi) is currently one of the best players in history. This will be extraordinarily special for all fans. There’s a large presence of Brazilian supporters in the United States.”
“This may also be a rare chance for them to see the players up close and enjoy a game with Palmeiras, which can be quite challenging for them since they live in the United States. I sincerely hope they savour this experience.”
With Brazilian fans always willing to travel in support of their national team, along with a significant diaspora in the US, Gomez expects the atmosphere to replicate that of domestic fixtures in Brazil, and he hopes his team can deliver for those making the journey.
“I believe the atmosphere will closely resemble what it’s like in South America and Brazil. Just watching the matches from afar, I can see the vibe is very similar to that of South America, and we’ll surely have a fantastic time.”
“The aim of Palmeiras has always been to strive for victory and collect as many titles as possible, even though we know we’ll be facing some of the strongest teams globally. However, we are committed to improving and aiming to advance as far as we can.”
