The Gold Coast Suns remain uncertain about the condition of their promising draftee Leo Lombard following a heavy collision during their match simulation against the Lions on Thursday evening.
The 18-year-old was forced to leave the field in the final moments of the game after suffering the worst from a mid-air clash where he charged with his shoulder into young Lion Levi Ashcroft.
While it appears the No.9 draft pick may have dislocated his shoulder, scans have been arranged to determine the full extent of any injury.
Lombard was assisted off the field, visibly frustrated as he tossed his mouthguard in anger.
Interim Suns coach Shaun Grigg provided an update on the injury after the match.

“At this stage, we’re unsure about the severity… hopefully it’s not serious,” Grigg stated.
“We’re keeping our fingers crossed it won’t be too long before he’s back on the field.”
The young player was anticipated to make his debut in the Opening Round against Essendon on March 8.

“You aim to get through these matches without any injuries or suspensions, but it seems he has hurt his shoulder,” commentators noted on the Fox broadcast.
“He threw his mouthguard about 25 metres back onto the field.”
“He’s clearly in significant pain. That was a hefty hit.”

Despite Lombard’s injury setback, the Suns earned victories over the Lions and Pies in their two-quarter match simulations.
In the clash against Brisbane, the Suns secured a narrow 10-point win, scoring seven goals to the reigning champions’ six, with standout performances from key forward Ked Walter.
Gold Coast also clinched a solid victory over Collingwood, with emerging ruck prospect Ned Moyle making his mark on the scoreboard.
