Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner praised his players for maintaining their composure and not succumbing to panic, even after being down to nine men during Saturday’s 2-1 victory against bitter rivals Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.
Eddie Nketiah saw red with his second yellow card just 12 minutes into the second half, while Marc Guehi followed suit with a dismissal in the 90th minute for another foul. Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke was also shown a red card in stoppage time, leaving his side with 10 men.
“I’m absolutely exhausted at this point. This match had it all, and it’s moments like these that make us love football,” Glasner reflected while speaking to Palace TV.
“It wasn’t overly challenging for us because our training often involves scenarios of nine against 10 and occasionally eight against 10. But it’s not something we face regularly… yet the players know exactly what needs to be done.”
With that win, Palace climbed to 11th place, having secured a league double over the eighth-placed Brighton, a club with which they have fostered a fierce rivalry since the 1970s.
“This is a significant achievement, marking 92 years since we managed to win both encounters against Brighton. It’s a huge win, and we’re genuinely pleased,” Glasner added.
