Australian duo Taylor Gill and Daniel Brkic are gearing up to take on one of their greatest challenges in the 2025 FIA Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC) season as they compete in the Acropolis Rally in Greece this weekend.
So far, this season has been fruitful for the pair, as they sit atop the JWRC standings following victories in both Sweden and Portugal. However, they find themselves tied on points with Swedish driver Mille Johansson.
In addition, Gill and Brkic are currently placed second in the WRC3 standings, accumulating 50 points from their performances in Sweden and Portugal.
The Acropolis Rally is notorious among drivers for its rugged gravel terrain, high dropout rates, and sweltering temperatures that can exceed 40 degrees Celsius. Completing the rally is often viewed as an achievement in itself, as opposed to just clocking in fast times.
Neither Gill nor Brkic are newcomers to the Acropolis Rally; both gained valuable experience during last year’s event.
“We’ve experienced first-hand how grueling this event can be,” Gill remarked.
“Last year, a massive rock cut our chances short, so we’re optimistic for a better outcome this time around.
“Luck plays a significant role here, especially with the amount of debris — particularly in the Junior ranks. We need to manage our rally effectively.”
This year’s Acropolis Rally will be held in Lamia, Greece, where teams will navigate 17 special stages covering a total of 345 kilometres. It is regarded as one of the standout events on the WRC calendar.
Gill notes that the demanding nature of the Acropolis will thoroughly test their Ford Fiesta Rally3, but the Australians are confident in its resilience.
“We must strategise our rally carefully and make wise choices along the way,” Gill explained.
“It’s a balancing act, as we need points for stage wins, but a mistake in pursuit of those points could impact our overall standing, so it’s a fine line we tread.”
