In a dominant showcase of football skill, determination, and experience, the Black Stars enhanced their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup by defeating Madagascar 3-0 in Morocco on Monday night.
This convincing win came on the heels of an impressive 5-0 thrashing of Chad just days earlier.
Otto Addo’s squad, who arrived in Morocco on Saturday, adapted quickly to the circumstances despite having limited preparation time.
They transitioned from the successful 4-1-4-1 formation used against Chad to a 5-3-2 setup, with Jerome Opoku and Francis Abu stepping into the starting XI to replace Inaki Williams and Ernest Nuamah.
The Black Stars kicked off the match with high energy, nearly scoring early from a free kick taken by Jordan Ayew, which found an outstretched Mohammed Salisu, who unfortunately couldn’t direct his effort on target.
It was Thomas Partey who broke the stalemate, connecting with Ayew’s delivery from the same area to put Ghana ahead.
Despite this early breakthrough, Ghana struggled to maintain their rhythm as Madagascar gained confidence, although they failed to create any serious threats before halftime.
In the second half, Ghana found their form again, with Partey doubling the lead from an Ayew corner kick.
The match was finally put to bed when Mohammed Kudus scored the third goal, ending a year-long drought in national team appearances.
Kudus’ goal was expertly set up by Ayew, who finished the night with a hat-trick of assists.
A series of substitutions from both teams indicated mutual acceptance as the Black Stars cruised to the final whistle, securing vital three points.
This triumph increases Ghana’s lead at the top of Group I to five points, putting them in a strong position for qualification with four matches still to go.
The Black Stars will meet Chad again in September, aiming to secure their fifth appearance at the World Cup.
