Boca Juniors’ head coach Fernando Gago has made it clear he has no plans to resign, despite his team’s exit from South America’s prestigious Libertadores Cup in the second round at the hands of Peru’s Alianza Lima.
In the second leg at La Bombonera on Tuesday night, Boca managed a 2-1 victory, following a 1-0 defeat in the first leg in Peru. However, they ultimately fell 5-4 in the penalty shootout.
“This is a significant setback. We deserved to win this match. We created numerous opportunities, but it just didn’t click,” Gago expressed to the media.
“There’s a sense of pain and deep sadness in the locker room and among our supporters. Yet, we will carry on with our efforts. From this experience, we’ll continue to grow.”
“I feel completely strong and committed. We will persist in our hard work.”
“We need to be self-critical, and from that point, we will continue to improve.”
Gago emphasised that the team would keep striving for success in the Primera Division and the upcoming Club World Cup, where they are set to face Benfica, Bayern Munich, and Auckland City in Group B.
