Fans of FC Nordsjælland are calling on former Danish international Peter Ankersen to part ways with the club during a podcast titled ‘Nordsjælland Dreamin’.
The frustration among supporters stems from an incident on the second-last matchday of the season, when Ankersen received a yellow card in a match against AGF. This booking resulted in a suspension for the final game of the season, which FC Nordsjælland desperately needed to win in order to keep their hopes of a third-place finish alive.
A successful result away against FC Copenhagen could have not only kept their ambitions intact but also potentially undermined FC Copenhagen’s chances of clinching the Danish title.
Ankersen had nearly reached 300 appearances for FC Copenhagen before his move to FC Nordsjælland, and fans suspect that he intentionally fouled an opponent to receive the yellow card, avoiding a confrontation with his previous teammates while inadvertently aiding FC Copenhagen’s title campaign.
Supporters feel that Ankersen prioritised his own interests over those of the team, despite his insistence that there was no underlying motive behind the yellow card.
Kasper Henriksen, a fan of FC Nordsjælland, acknowledges Ankersen’s impressive season, during which he earned 25 caps for Denmark, but believes there is no way back for the right-back in light of the yellow card incident.
“In my view, he is done at FC Nordsjælland. I can’t see him returning, and he certainly won’t win my support again, as it’s painfully clear to anyone with a bit of knowledge about the sport that he chose FC Copenhagen over us,” he commented. “Moreover, the competitive aspect makes it all the more frustrating. There was so much at stake when he did that (received the yellow card). We were chasing a bronze medal while FC Midtjylland and FC Copenhagen were battling for the top spot.”
