Fulham’s manager, Marco Silva, has commented that speculation linking him to the Tottenham Hotspur managerial position is a common occurrence whenever he guides his team to a prosperous season.
Silva has once again demonstrated his ability at Fulham, steering the team close to a potential European qualification that few expected at the season’s outset.
The 47-year-old’s name has surfaced in discussions regarding a move across London amid growing uncertainty surrounding Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou, who faces mounting pressure as his position appears increasingly precarious.
Postecoglou’s challenges intensified following a 2-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage, marking a further decline that sees Tottenham now positioned 14th in the Premier League, trailing behind Manchester United.
The Telegraph has reported that if Postecoglou were to part ways with the club, Silva would be among the top candidates considered for the role, particularly given Tottenham’s alarming performance.
In response to these rumours, Silva addressed the National Association of Football Coaches and dismissed them, emphasising that such speculation is a standard aspect of success, as accomplished managers are often linked to clubs in turmoil.
“It’s a natural situation when objectives are met with strong results,” he stated, as per Sport Witness.
“When the team demonstrates quality in their play and shows clear progression for both the players and the club itself.”
Reports indicate that the Fulham manager has a release clause exceeding £6 million in his current contract, suggesting that should Tottenham decide to part ways with Postecoglou, they would need to invest considerably to secure Silva’s services.
Entering his fourth season with Fulham, Silva has never previously managed a club for more than three years; if Tottenham’s form continues to falter, he might very well emerge as the prime candidate for the managerial vacancy.
