This past weekend, Fulham’s pursuit of European football received a significant boost as they triumphed over Tottenham Hotspur in a thrilling London derby, clinching a 2-0 victory that brings them just four points shy of a top-four finish.
Early on at Craven Cottage, goalmouth action was scarce, with Spurs appearing somewhat fatigued following their midweek European commitments.
It took the visitors 20 minutes to create a genuine threat to Fulham’s goal. When they finally did, Mathys Tel displayed his skills by turning Timothy Castagne inside the box, but his cross tragically skidded across the six-yard area with no Spurs player able to capitalise.
At the other end, Castagne was soon involved in the offensive play, but after a misdirected clearance from Ben Davies fell nicely for him, his left-footed shot was unfortunately straight at Guglielmo Vicario.
Fulham ended the first half with increasing momentum, though it was a recurring theme in those opening 45 minutes that neither side could convert their chances into meaningful opportunities.
The second half commenced similarly, but this time a fortunate chance came Emile Smith Rowe’s way, who, regrettably, blazed his attempt high and wide.
Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou turned to his substitutes at halftime, introducing Lucas Bergvall and Heung-min Son. It was Bergvall who created an early opportunity post-break, delivering a cross to Dominic Solanke, who could only direct his header wide.
The match was devoid of quality for most of the game, with the first clear-cut chance arising in the 69th minute.
Bernd Leno made a brilliant save to thwart Tel from the edge of the box, and when James Maddison collected the rebound, he set up Solanke, who somehow volleyed over from close range.
The final moments of the game transformed into an exhilarating end-to-end affair as both teams sought a late winner.

Willian, making his first start since returning to Fulham, came close with an effort that curled just wide with 15 minutes remaining.
However, it wasn’t long before the hosts found the breakthrough, with a scrappy move culminating in Andreas Pereira setting up Rodrigo Muniz, who coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
The final nail in the Spurs’ coffin came just two minutes from the end. After being brought on, former Spurs player Ryan Sessegnon shrugged off Ben Davies and produced a stunning right-footed strike, sealing the win and ending Tottenham’s two-match winning streak away from home.
