Freiburg surged into the Bundesliga’s top six following a thrilling 2-1 comeback win against Borussia Mönchengladbach, extending their unbeaten streak in head-to-head encounters to eight matches.
As both teams entered the match separated by a mere two points, it was perhaps predictable that the initial exchanges were closely contested. Gladbach had the upper hand early on and capitalised with a goal within the first 15 minutes, albeit with a touch of good fortune.
The hosts seized an opportunity and surged forward, with Franck Honorat racing down the right wing, and his cross inadvertently diverted into the net by the unfortunate Christian Günter.
This goal highlighted Freiburg’s struggles in recent weeks, but instead of wallowing in self-pity, the visitors responded swiftly, equalising merely two minutes later.

Their goal arrived from another right-wing cross, with Lukas Kübler providing a high ball that Patrick Osterhage converted with a header at the back post, marking the first goal of his career at the club since joining last summer.
The match then saw chances sporadically appear for both sides, with the most notable falling to Robin Hack, who struck the post after stealing the ball from Kübler inside the penalty area.
Upon resuming the second half, Freiburg seemed the more threatening side, with the impressive young Gladbach goalkeeper Tiago Pereira Cardoso called into action to thwart Junior Adamu, who was seeking his first Bundesliga goal since September.
The 19-year-old keeper further showcased his talent by denying a rebound from Lucas Höler, executing a spectacular save to keep the ball out of the net.

Freiburg maintained their pressure on the hosts throughout much of the second half and were eventually rewarded in the 90th minute. Ritsu Dōan delivered a cross into the box, allowing Johan Manzambi to rise and head in his first senior goal for the club, clinching the win.
This victory ends Freiburg’s five-match winless streak, while Gerardo Seoane’s side slips further behind in the competitive pursuit of European qualification.
