This evening at the MetLife Stadium, Fluminense will face Borussia Dortmund in what promises to be an engaging encounter. The match highlights the contrasting experiences between the seasoned players from Rio de Janeiro and the vibrant youth of the German squad, a club recognised for its strong emphasis on training talent, much like the Tricolor Carioca.
Fluminense boasts several key figures, including veteran goalkeeper Fabio, defender Thiago Silva, right-back Samuel Xavier, midfielder Paulo Ganso, and striker German Cano. Combined, these players have amassed an impressive 191 years, with Fabio standing out as the oldest participant in the Club World Cup at the age of 44.
In contrast, Borussia Dortmund will unveil their promising young talents to the world. Perhaps the most exciting of these is 16-year-old American winger Mathis Albert, who is the second youngest player in the FIFA Club World Cup, just behind Urawa Red Diamonds midfielder Takeshi Wada, who recently celebrated his 16th birthday.
“We understand that we will encounter numerous challenges. Borussia have a youthful squad full of dynamism and speed; it’s up to us to contain their strengths and exploit their weaknesses,” Samuel Xavier remarked as he anticipated this generational clash at the MetLife Stadium.
Look Out for the Former Brazilian’s Son
Alongside Albert, Dortmund arrive at the Club World Cup with additional young stars worth watching. One such player is the Italian-born midfielder Samuele Inacio, who is just 17 and has Brazilian heritage.
He is the son of former footballer Joao Batista Inacio Pia, who played for clubs like Napoli and Atalanta, where he began his youth career after moving from Ibitinga, in São Paulo, at the age of 14.
Similar to his father, Inacio started his football journey at Atalanta and was eventually signed by Dortmund.
Another promising talent on the German team is Cole Campbell, a 19-year-old American who made his professional debut in Iceland at just 15. Last season, Campbell appeared in six matches for BVB.

Jobe Aiming to Follow in His Brother’s Footsteps
At just 19 years of age, Jobe Bellingham, sibling of Real Madrid and England sensation Jude, is certainly one to keep an eye on. There’s speculation he might make his debut for the Reds this afternoon at the MetLife.
Acquired from Sunderland for 30.5 million euros, Bellingham has signed a contract with the club valid until 2030. His statistics at Sunderland were modest, with 11 goals in 90 appearances.

Nonetheless, there’s high hope that he will follow in the footsteps of the many talented youngsters who have excelled at Borussia, including his own sibling.
Borussia Dortmund’s reputation as a training institution is solidified by the notable transfers they’ve made in recent years, frequently selling players between the ages of 19 and 22, including the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Erling Haaland.
“It’s 11 Against 11”
The revitalised Borussia Dortmund will present a formidable challenge to Fluminense. However, midfielder Nonato insists that when the game kicks off, both teams will be on equal footing. The Tricolour is not one to back down.
“We’re not naive enough to ignore Borussia’s quality. Yet, at the end of the day, it’s 11 against 11. We understand our value, what we’ve been training for, and that gives us the confidence for a great performance. We need to assert ourselves regardless of who the opposition is. I believe this approach will lead us to victory,” he concluded.
