Flamengo’s lacklustre performance saw them held to a 1-1 draw against Los Angeles FC in their final group match at the Club World Cup on Tuesday. Nonetheless, the Brazilian team enters the knockout stage with positive momentum following another solid display.
Denis Bouanga gave the MLS side the lead in the 84th minute; however, substitute Wallace Yan equalised just two minutes later, securing Flamengo’s unbeaten progress to a last-16 clash with Bayern Munich in Miami this Sunday.
Having already clinched top spot in Group D, Flamengo’s coach Filipe Luis opted for seven changes in the starting XI. Yet, the team maintained the same attacking style that had previously seen them triumph over Chelsea and Esperance.
With a bit more precision in front of goal, they could have easily secured a victory against an LAFC team that had already been eliminated from the tournament after losing their first two matches without finding the net.

“Our group stage performance was excellent,” Felipe Luis remarked during a post-match press conference.
“We reached our goal early on, allowing us to rest players who had accumulated yellow cards and give opportunities to those who hadn’t featured yet.
“We maintained our rhythm and created chances to score. Unfortunately, the goals didn’t come. Overall, we’re pleased to report no injuries, and we had a fantastic group stage. Now our focus is solely on Bayern.”
