FC Groningen has reportedly accepted a final offer from Feyenoord for their promising midfielder, Luciano Valente.
Feyenoord has been pursuing Valente for some time, and the midfielder made it clear early on that he was keen to leave Groningen for the 16-time Dutch champions. Initial offers for the Dutch U21 international were turned down by Groningen, who were aiming for a fee in the eight-figure bracket.
As per various sources from the Netherlands, FC Groningen has come to terms on a deal worth approximately €7 million for Valente, allowing him to secure a move to a top-tier club. RTV Rijnmond’s Dennis Kranenburg indicates that Valente is set to sign a four-year contract with the club in Rotterdam.
FC Groningen has also negotiated a 12.5% sell-on clause, ensuring the club receives additional funds should the talented 21-year-old midfielder be sold in the future.
The Italian-Dutch Valente made his debut for the Pride of the North in August 2022 during a 6-1 defeat away to Ajax. The Dutch youth international, who started in four matches at this year’s U21 Euros, has made 94 appearances for FC Groningen, scoring 10 goals along the way. Last season, Valente netted two goals and provided seven assists in 32 Eredivisie matches.
At Feyenoord, he will be joining a competitive midfield that features Eredivisie top scorer Sem Steijn, Netherlands international Quinten Timber, Hwang-In Beom, Jakub Moder, Calvin Stengs, Oussama Targhalline, Ramiz Zerrouki, and Kevin Nadje.
