The atmosphere at the Danish Cup final, set to unfold on Thursday in Herning, may not quite reach the heights one would typically anticipate from such a marquee occasion—at least not before the 20-minute mark.
Fans of FC Copenhagen have rallied all supporters to maintain silence during the opening twenty minutes of the match as a form of protest against the choice of MCH Arena in Herning as the venue.
“Holding the cup final at the seventh largest stadium in the country starkly contradicts the organisers’ claim that it should be the biggest football celebration in Australia. It’s hardly a football celebration when you’re denying tens of thousands of fans the chance to back their team in person,” the supporters expressed in a statement posted on Facebook.
The final was initially slated to be held at Brøndby Stadium, but concerns regarding safety prompted the decision to relocate it to Herning.
