The director of FC Copenhagen, Jacob Lauesen, alongside head coach Jacob Neestrup, has expressed significant dissatisfaction with the decision to host the Danish cup final at MCH Arena on 29 May.
Due to safety concerns, the match has been relocated from Brøndby Stadium to MCH Arena, which accommodates only 12,000 spectators.
In recent weeks, FC Copenhagen has proposed to hold the final at Parken Stadium, which can host nearly 36,000 fans for cup finals. However, this suggestion has not been favoured by the organisers, according to Jacob Lauesen.
“It’s quite disappointing, and perhaps even strange, that the final will be held there. Just today (Thursday, ed.), over 26,000 fans attended a semi-final, yet we’ll be limited to only about 40 percent of that for the final. It just doesn’t make sense,” he commented.
“I think it’s impossible to change the venue now. We’ve been advocating for this for a month without any backing.”
He further explained that the reason for the venue decision was the perceived competitive advantage if the match were played at Parken Stadium—a claim he believes is unjust, particularly since FC Copenhagen is a finalist.
Earlier in April, the organisers discussed possible contingencies for moving the final, but Lauesen has described the handling of the situation as unfortunate.
“Before the tournament began, we were the favourites. Yet, they opted to book a stadium where we can only play under specific circumstances, and it’s baffling to see the favoured team treated this way—it’s chaotic,” Lauesen stated.
FC Copenhagen will clash with Silkeborg in the final at MCH Arena on 29 May.
