The reigning champions are set to clash with the 2023 victors in the 2025 Svenska Cupen Final, following Malmö’s hard-fought 3-2 victory over Göteborg, which required extra time. Meanwhile, Häcken secured their spot with a 3-1 win against Norrköping in the semi-finals.
This outcome ensures that the cup will either be claimed by Malmö or Häcken for the fourth consecutive year, providing a rematch of the 2023 final, which Häcken claimed with a convincing 4-1 victory.
2022 and 2024 cup winners Malmö appeared on track for another final appearance as Isaac Kiese Thelin scored twice in the first half, establishing a solid lead at Eleda Stadion.
His first goal came just after the half-hour mark with a composed finish, and he doubled the advantage with a simple tap-in during stoppage time of the first half.
They could have extended their lead to three in the second half when Taha Ali rounded the goalkeeper, but inexplicably failed to convert the open chance into an empty net.
This missed opportunity allowed Göteborg to mount a comeback, and with only 19 minutes left, Max Fenger capitalised by heading in after the home side failed to clear a corner.
As the match approached its final moments, Kolbeinn Thordarson completed the comeback by nodding in a header from Sebastian Clemensen’s cross, securing a spot in extra time.
With penalties looming, the game changed in the 112th minute as Oliver Berg struck a well-placed first-time finish into the bottom corner, propelling Malmö back into the Final.
They will once again meet Häcken in the Final on May 29th, after the Wasps turned the game around to defeat Norrköping at home.
Norrköping struck first when David Moberg Karlsson broke through and unselfishly squared the ball for Tim Prica, who finished it off.
However, Häcken quickly found their rhythm, equalising six minutes later when Srdjan Hrstic finished off a fluid move involving Zeidane Inoussa.
The home side took control just before half-time when Silas Andersen’s shot hit the post, and Adam Lundqvist smashed the rebound into the net with a half-volley.
Häcken confirmed their spot in the final in style with just seven minutes remaining, as Hrstic set up Samuel Leach for the finishing touch, sealing a 3-1 victory.
