Toyin ‘Deco’ Emmanuel, a midfielder for Sapanca Kurtkoyspor, has set his sights high, taking cues from the legendary Brazilian-born Portuguese player Deco.
The Nigerian talent commenced his professional career with Crown FC, a well-known club in Nigeria, before making the move to Turkey to advance his football career.
Initially, he relocated to Europe to pursue a Master’s degree. However, after being noticed by Erenkoy Acarspor, he transitioned to Kurtkoyspor, where he played a pivotal role in the team’s league victory, leading to their promotion.
With several elite European clubs interested in his services, he’s now committed to reaching new heights in his career and hopes to don the Super Eagles jersey in the future if the opportunity presents itself.
“I initially focused on my studies, which was my reason for moving to Turkey. But fate intervened, and I rediscovered my love for football.
“Becoming part of Kurtkoyspor and aiding the team in clinching the league title marked a significant turning point for me. It was an unforgettable experience that reignited my confidence and altered my path completely.
“This success reinforced that with hard work, discipline, and belief, anything is achievable. It wasn’t merely about winning the trophy; it was about proving to myself that my dreams were still alive.
“Now, my determination has intensified. My target is straightforward: to achieve the highest level possible in my football career. I’m committed to giving it my all and striving to become the best version of myself.”
Despite his stellar performances in Turkey, Emmanuel believes that his foundation was laid in the Nigerian league.
He remarked: “Playing for Crown FC was the start of my football journey. It was there that I honed the basic skills of the game, and I will always be grateful for that experience.
“What I miss the most is the fervent support of the fans on match days and the camaraderie shared with my teammates.
“That period taught me that football transcends technique and talent; it’s also about heart, perseverance, and the relationships forged along the way. Those lessons shape me both on and off the field.”

The promising midfielder expresses that former Portugal international Deco serves as his inspiration, noting the ex-Barcelona star’s determination and mental fortitude as exemplary traits for any young player aiming for the pinnacle of football.
Emmanuel shared, “I take inspiration from Deco, one of the game’s most astute playmakers and a past star of Porto, Barcelona, and Portugal. He is my role model because he dictated play with both intellect and finesse.
“His playing style and intelligence influenced my nickname, Deco, reflecting my admiration for his approach to the sport.”
Nigeria and European Aspirations
Currently competing in the Turkish league, the skillful midfielder has garnered interest from clubs in Italy, Spain, and Germany.
However, his ultimate goal is to compete in the UEFA Champions League, establish himself as a premier player in international football, and represent the Nigerian national team.
Emmanuel stated, “It’s not unusual to receive interest from top clubs, but I believe in timing my move wisely.
“My deepest ambition is to play for some of the most prestigious clubs worldwide and compete in the UEFA Champions League.
“On a personal level, I aim to become a world-class midfielder, winning titles at the highest levels.
“Representing Nigeria’s Super Eagles is a deeply cherished goal; wearing the green and white jersey would be among the proudest moments in my life, and I will continue to strive to make that dream a reality.”
